What the roster does (and doesn’t) show

Juvenile detainees do not appear on the public Howard County roster. Persons held under federal authority — including U.S. Marshals holds at the jail — may not display. Sealed or expunged records are excluded under Indiana’s Access to Public Records Act (Ind. Code § 5-14-3), which governs what booking information the Sheriff may publish. Records for people transferred to Indiana Department of Correction state facilities will not appear on the county roster after transfer.

The online roster may not yet show a booking that happened in the last few hours. That’s normal, not a sign something went wrong. A phone call to the jail will confirm custody status before the online record catches up. When you call, have the person’s full legal name ready — staff search by name.

Bond is set at first appearance, which in Indiana typically happens within the first day or two after booking. Calling tonight confirms that your person is in custody; it won’t tell you the bond amount yet, because a judge hasn’t set it. That part is the waiting part.
