Searching the Jefferson County jail roster

The county’s Inmate Information & Roster page is the direct starting point. The roster is maintained by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, which operates the jail under Indiana’s elected-sheriff model.

2. Search by the person’s last name or full name using the on-page search field.
3. Review the results for booking date, charges listed, and current custody status.
4. If the roster links to the Zuercher portal (jefferson-911-in.zuercherportal.com/#/inmates), use that portal for real-time booking data — it is the live feed behind the county page.

What the roster does (and doesn’t) show

The Jefferson County roster refreshes as new booking data flows from the Zuercher system, but there is a lag between physical booking at the jail and when a record appears online. A person booked very recently may not yet appear even though they are in custody. Confirm numbers and hours before visiting or calling if you plan to follow up in person.

The roster shows current Jefferson County jail detainees only. It does not display juveniles, people held under sealed orders, or individuals in federal custody. Someone transferred to the Indiana Department of Correction after sentencing will drop off the local roster entirely. Court case information — charges, hearing dates, case numbers — is separate; use MyCase, Indiana’s statewide court portal, for that layer. If someone was just booked tonight

Can’t find them on the roster yet — and need to know right now? The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is your fastest path to a custody confirmation tonight. The line is staffed around the clock for custody questions. Call the Sheriff’s Office — see the Sheriff’s Office page for the current number — and ask whether the person has been booked and processed. That’s the hard part of tonight: the online roster may not catch up for a while, but a staff member can confirm custody directly. It’s a long night, and the phone is faster than the website right now.

On the question of bond: Indiana law requires a first appearance before a judge, typically within 24 to 72 hours of booking, and bond is set at that hearing. Calling tonight confirms whether the person is in custody and when first appearance is scheduled — not the bond amount, which hasn’t been set yet. That’s frustrating but normal. Write down the booking number if the staff member provides one; you’ll need it for follow-up calls.

Visitation is not available the night of booking. The Jefferson County Jail’s visitation page shows that video visitation hours run Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. — those hours start the following day, not tonight. In-person kiosk visits at the facility run Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Plan for tomorrow. That part is the hard part.

Tomorrow morning, call the Jefferson County Clerk’s office for case information once a case number has been assigned. Attend the first appearance if you can — it is open to the public. • Released: The person may have been released on bond or on their own recognizance since booking.
