Juvenile records are not shown on public-facing Spencer County jail records. Sealed records, expunged arrests, and federal detainees held in federal custody are also excluded. Within the first 24 to 72 hours after booking, the fastest way to confirm custody is to call the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office directly — call the Spencer County Courthouse at (812) 649-6028 (verify before calling) and ask to be connected to the jail. That’s a hard wait, but it’s the normal timeline. The line is staffed around the clock for custody questions, so calling at 11 p.m. is the same as calling at 9 a.m. for a custody confirmation.

• Federal custody: Federal charges result in booking at a federal facility, not the county jail. The Southern District of Indiana handles federal cases in this region.
